[ARCHIVED] WeGo offering $1 rides to COVID-19 vaccination appointments

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Feb. 4, 2021) – Have a COVID-19 vaccination appointment, but no ride? Consider WeGo, the City of Gainesville’s new vanpool service.

In February and March, WeGo will offer $1 fares (reduced from $3) to riders traveling to COVID-19 vaccination appointments at select sites in Gainesville city limits.

“We are delighted to use the new WeGo vanpool service to help residents access vaccination sites,” said Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center Director Phillippa Lewis Moss. “We want to make sure every eligible person has equal access to the vaccine, and transportation should not be a barrier to public health.”

District 2 Public Health Public Information Officer Dave Palmer, MPH, noted an important location change for those with appointments at the Hall County Health Department.

“Due to space and parking limitations at the Hall County Health Department, the COVID-19 vaccination clinic will move to Chicopee Woods Agriculture Center beginning Monday, Feb. 8,” Palmer said. “All FIRST- and SECOND-dose appointments scheduled ON or AFTER Feb. 8 will be administered at the Chicopee Woods facility.”

WeGo operates from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and uses a smartphone app, along with a fleet of 10-12 passenger vans, to transport you around town. The service launched in December 2020 and is available to everyone, including persons with disabilities. Download the WeGo Powered by Via app today at the online Google or Apple stores.

Below is a list of COVID-19 vaccination sites WeGo will service beginning Feb. 8-March 31. At this time, vaccines are only available to people 65 and older, healthcare workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, law enforcement, firefighters, 911 dispatchers and first responders.
