Learn the ins and outs of Beautiful Mess Jewelry, what makes it a Must-Try Monday-worthy business and why you should make it a destination the next time you're near downtown Gainesville by reviewing the exclusive Q+A with Robson below.
Q: When did your business open and where? If your business has operated at other locations, please list those.
A: November 2020 in the comfort of my home. I was in a place of burnout and needed a creative outlet, and I started making polymer clay earrings that led to metalsmithing, that led to permanent jewelry and now everything else we have to offer. Our business is always evolving.
Q: How long have you been operating on the historic square in downtown Gainesville?
A: For over a year, but before my place in Gypsy Threads, I did a lot of pop-ups in and around the square.
Q: What drew you to operate your business in downtown Gainesville?
A: I absolutely love Gainesville! I'm a fourth-generation Hall Countian, so Gainesville-Hall County is home. I love all the growth and new things that have come and are coming to downtown.
Q: What kinds of products and/or services does your business offer to the public?
A: Permanent jewelry, custom hats, hat bar, charm bar, personalized jewelry, gifts, accessories, trucker hat bar and our upcoming jean jacket patch bar. We offer our services at our location, pop-ups, private parties at our location or host's location.
Q: Can you give some examples of unique products and/or services you offer that aren’t easily replicated elsewhere in town?
A: Almost all of my handmade, custom-made pieces are not replicated in town. I believe a lot of our items that we offer are not replicated in town.
Q: What offerings are you most proud of and why? Give us the scoop!
A: I absolutely love it when customers want pieces like jewelry or a custom hat that I have personally made with my hands. I feel like they are taking a piece of art that I created home with them. I also love creating personalized pieces that are created specifically for a person and their unique taste.
Q: Do you target a specific audience? If so, can you please specify?
A: We serve everyone!
Q: If you aim to target everyone, can you please explain how and through what products and/or services?
A: A lot of our pieces are gender-neutral and custom fitted to each person. Our chains that we used for permanent jewelry are worn by everyone and our hats are generic.
Q: What is your favorite “must try” item you offer and why?
A: I would say one of our custom hats from our hat bar that a customer helps create or a trucker hat. It's fun to see what people create with all the options that we have. I also love how excited they get about it.
Q: In your own words, what makes your business a positive addition to the downtown cityscape?
A: I feel like my business offers an experience to either an individual or a group. It also creates a space for the customer to use their creativity to make pieces they love and is specifically unique to them.
Q: If you have other locations nearby, can you please provide what cities you’re located in?
A: We have our own storefront in downtown Athens (240 W. Clayton St., Athens, GA 30601). We also do pop-ups and private parties everywhere.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add?
A: We have a Galentine's Shopping Event along with other businesses Feb. 3. Join us!
