IT award

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (November 2023) – The Center for Digital Government (CDG) recently announced the winners of the 23rd annual Digital Cities Survey, recognizing cities utilizing technology to strengthen cybersecurity, enhance transparency, digital privacy rights and digital equity, and those finding innovative ways to support solutions for social challenges facing cities today.

“The Digital Cities Survey winners continue to push the envelope of how government agencies deliver modern services during a period of rapid technological change,” said Todd Sander, VP, Center for Digital Government and Governing Institute. “… We recognize and congratulate these trailblazers who are helping to build a government that works for everyone.”

The City of Gainesville was named in the top 10-ranking cities for population category up to 75,000, and was honored during the Digital Cities Awards event at the National League of Cities “City Summit” Nov. 16 in Atlanta.

“The Gainesville Department of Information Technology is extremely pleased and proud to have been named one of the top public technology agencies in our state by the Center for Digital Government,” said Jonathan Reich, Chief Information Officer for Gainesville. “Our department of talented individuals works diligently throughout the year to implement innovative technologies that not only streamline and strengthen City operations, but improve connectivity and best protect the organization against cybersecurity threats.”

Gainesville was ranked No. 8 in its population category alongside Hillsdale, Michigan (No. 10); Dunwoody, Georgia (No. 9); Newark, California (No. 7); Williamsburg, Virginia (No. 6); Kalamazoo, Michigan (No. 5); Delray Beach, Florida (No. 4); Tinley Park, Illinois (No. 3); Punta Gorda, Florida (No. 2); and Tamarac, Florida (No. 1).
