GAINESVILLE, Ga. (June 15, 2023) – Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport’s Runway 5-23 Rehabilitation Project has made its final approach with upgrades wrapping up 11 days earlier than originally scheduled.
In late May, runways closed temporarily as the City of Gainesville piloted the repaving plan. As of Thursday, June 15, work was completed and all runways reopened.
Looking ahead, runways 5-23 and 11-29 will close once more in July to allow crews to add the finishing touches. Runway 5-23 will be closed July 10-19 for pavement grooving and marking. Runway 11-29 will be closed July 10-12 also for pavement grooving and marking, but only at its intersection with Runway 5-23.
The City thanks the public for its patience during this progress.
