GAINESVILLE, Ga. – In celebration of Georgia Cities Week April 23-29, the City of Gainesville is hosting an essay contest for all sixth-grade students who attend school or are homeschooled in the City of Gainesville.
We want to know … if you were mayor for a day, what would be your first order of business? What important community issues would you seek to address? How would you make your hometown a better place to live for friends and family?
In one page or less, answer the question “If I Were Mayor, I Would …” so your teacher/guardian can turn them in by the deadline at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. This will give City staff enough time to appropriately judge each and every entry before selecting the winner, which will be announced during Georgia Cities Week. And don’t forget to write your name (first and last), age, grade and school on your essay.
The first-place winner receives a City of Gainesville T-shirt, a certificate of achievement and a $50 voucher to Atlas Pizza!
Entries may be dropped off in person any time from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Gainesville Welcome Center in suite 100 of the Gainesville Administration Building, located at 300 Henry Ward Way, Gainesville. Teachers/guardians, please put your name on the stack of entries so we know who to contact about the winner.
Questions and/or concerns? Reach out to Gainesville Public Relations Director Christina Santee.
