[ARCHIVED] M.L.K. Jr. Blvd. partially closed due to storm drain collapse

Map No. 1

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Nov. 16, 2022) – The Gainesville Department of Water Resources (DWR) is working to repair a collapsed storm drain in the area behind Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier.

The northeast bound lane of M.L.K. Jr. Boulevard, from Fair Street to where it turns into Downey Boulevard at Myrtle Street, will be closed to through traffic until 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. At 9 a.m., the southwest bound lane of M.L.K. Jr. Boulevard will also be shut down and traffic rerouted.

As of Wednesday evening, Nov. 16, DWR estimated crews would likely be working through the week’s end to replace the storm drain. The public should plan for the closure potentially lasting through the weekend and map out an alternative route for travel.

Those navigating the area are urged to drive carefully, and watch for construction workers and equipment during this time.

Please check gainesville.org and/or the @GainesvilleGeorgiaGovernment Facebook page for potential updates.
