GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Oct. 31, 2022) – The Gainesville Department of Water Resources (DWR) is working to repair a water main break responsible for school cancellations at Gainesville High School and Centennial Arts Academy.
DWR Assistant Director Don Dye described the main as an aged 12-inch cast iron pipe located on the schools' Century Place campus. He estimated the break occurred around 2 a.m. before it was reported around 6 a.m.
As of Monday morning, Dye estimated repairs would take approximately six-eight hours to complete, with water being restored by the end of the day.
Those navigating the area are urged to drive carefully, and watch for construction workers and equipment during this time.
