[ARCHIVED] Sports Fest a ‘score’ for athletes, sports enthusiasts

UPDATE (March 10, 2022) – Due to inclement weather expected this weekend, Sports Fest has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 19. The Greater Gainesville Sports Alliance and vendors look forward to welcoming the community from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Cabbell Field.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Feb. 24, 2022) – Athletes and sports enthusiasts hoping to “score” information on all local sports and sports-related organizations need not look further than the Greater Gainesville Sports Alliance’s (GGSA) inaugural Sports Fest.

“On March 12, the Greater Gainesville Sports Alliance will host a sports festival that will showcase all sports, sporting-related organizations, clubs and outdoor activities in our community,” said Gainesville Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager Regina Dyer.

GGSA was formed in 2021, representing sporting partners in Gainesville-Hall County. Since its inception, GGSA has bid on several events, securing two NCAA national championships, and produced a GGSA Sports Planning Guide.

“Sports are huge in our community and there is a wide variety of choices from archery to kickball!” Dyer said.

Sports Fest will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Cabbell Field in front of Gainesville Middle School, located at 1581 Community Way.

“This is for youth AND adult opportunities to be active in Gainesville-Hall County,” Dyer said. “Sporting groups and clubs will be on site to promote classes, after-school programs and even summer camp registrations.”

Demonstrations will also be offered throughout the day, featuring athletics such as baseball, karate, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball and more.

“Both adults and youth will be able to check out different sporting options in our community, and even have a chance to sign up for camps or programs,” Dyer said.
