[ARCHIVED] Main Street Money easy way to give the gift of local

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Dec. 9, 2021) – With Christmas around the corner, Main Street Gainesville is reminding visitors to the historic downtown square of yet another way they can support small businesses.

Through Main Street Money, anyone can give the gift of local. Similar to a gift certificate, Main Street Money is sold in $10 increments from the Gainesville Visitor Center.

“Giving the gift of Main Street Money this holiday season is just another way the community can help support small businesses on the square,” said Main Street Manager Nicole Ricketts. “Plus, not all our wonderful small businesses offer gift certificates, so Main Street Money helps fill that need. By accepting Main Street Money, every downtown business has the opportunity to increase their sales during the holiday shopping season, and perhaps attract new customers who might not be familiar with their business until they go to redeem their Main Street Money.”

Main Street Money can be used at any participating business to purchase the same goods and services you’d normally pay for with crash or credit. Look for a “We Accept Main Street Money” cling in a storefront window or inquire within to confirm your Main Street Money dollars are accepted there.

Main Street Money is versatile in that its recipient can choose from more than 25 businesses when they’re ready to spend it. Whether a gift from you to a loved one, freebies from your company to your workforce, giveaways to your co-workers, etc., Main Street Money gives the gift of choice while also helping to keep downtown Gainesville vibrant and thriving.

“These certificates make great gifts and are also a creative way to accommodate food budgets for group trips to downtown Gainesville,” Ricketts said.

Some participating businesses include, but aren’t limited to, Atlas Pizza, Avocados Restaurant, Dress Up Boutique, Inman Perk Coffee, Occasions Florist, Rahab’s Rope, Sweet Magnolia’s, The Inked Pig, Northeast Georgia History Center and more. For a complete list of participating businesses, visit gainesville.org/main-street-money.

Main Street Money is available for purchase from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday (excluding holidays) at the Gainesville Visitor Center, located on the first floor (south entrance) of the Gainesville Administration Building at 300 Henry Ward Way, Gainesville. City administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 23-Friday, Dec. 24, in observance of the Christmas holiday.

Those planning to purchase a large order of Main Street Money should call ahead to ensure their request is filled as soon as possible: 770-297-1141.

Any business in the Main Street District interested in participating and accepting Main Street Money is encouraged to contact Ricketts via email at mainstre[email protected].
