GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Oct. 9, 2021) – October has arrived, which means Squarecrows on the Square has returned to downtown Gainesville.
“Squarecrows are a fun way for any community group in Gainesville to join fall festivities downtown on the square," said Main Street Gainesville Manager Nicole Ricketts. "We can’t wait to see all the creative displays for our community to enjoy this October!”
Main Street Gainesville opened up the festive celebration to local businesses, families, nonprofit organizations – everyone – to apply to display a scarecrow on the historic square. The scarecrows can take on any theme, which means the opportunities to wow visitors to the square are endless.
All squarecrows, now up for the public to enjoy, will compete for the 2021 Best Squarecrow title. Photos of the displays can be found on the @DowntownGainesvilleGA Facebook page, where the public can vote on their favorite(s). The photo with the most “Likes” come Halloween night, Oct. 31, wins! The grand prize will be a gift certificate to a downtown business of the winner’s choice, so make those votes count!
The 2020 squarecrows Facebook debut reached nearly 40,000 people, and thousands engaged with the post to name Sweet Segovia Delacacies’ squarecrow, “Emelda”, the winner with over 800 “Likes” – the record to beat in 2021.
