GAINESVILLE, Ga. (May 8, 2021) – Historic Green Street, starting next week, will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes as the Gainesville Department of Water Resources (DWR) continues maintenance on the City's underground water system.
DWR will shut down both southbound lanes from Washington Street to Ridgewood Avenue, shifting all traffic (southbound and northbound) into the two open northbound lanes. The closure is slated for 8 p.m. Monday, May 10-2 a.m. Tuesday, May 11.
At the same time, water service will be temporarily interrupted for a handful of customers, roughly a dozen, on the west side of Green Street between the streets identified above.
Those navigating the area are urged to drive carefully, and watch for construction workers and equipment during this time. Customers are also urged to take necessary precautions to prevent damage to any equipment requiring water.
