[ARCHIVED] Safe Kids Day set Saturday, May 8

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (May 3, 2021) – In recognition of Safe Kids Day, the Gainesville Fire Department is gearing up to host several safety-related activities Saturday, May 8, at station No. 1.

Activities are slated from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and will include FREE car seat checks, a car seat distribution*, diaper giveaways, face painting and balloon art, plus a visit from the Georgia Mountain Food Bank.

The event is a proactive effort by Safe Kids Northeast Georgia, led by Northeast Georgia Health System, in partnership with the Gainesville F.D., Georgia Mountain Food Bank and Amerigroup RealSolutions.

Station No. 1 is located at 725 Pine St. behind the Gainesville Public Safety Complex.

*Current car seat must be expired, previously involved in a car crash, or the child has outgrown the weight and height limits allowed by the seat to be eligible to receive a new car seat. You must provide your old car seat in exchange for the new car seat.

Launched in 1987, Safe Kids Worldwide is the first and only international nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of accidental injuries, a leading killer of children 19 and under. More than 600 coalitions in 49 states bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families.

Created in 1992, Safe Kids Northeast Georgia is one of 30 coalitions in Georgia. Northeast Georgia Medical Center serves as the lead agency for Safe Kids Northeast Georgia, and programs are funded through donations to the Northeast Georgia Health System Foundation. Over 130 members, representing more than 30 community agencies, participate on the coalition.

Safe Kids Northeast Georgia tracks childhood injury rates through data provided by Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Emergency Departments. Using this data, coalition members are able to determine where to best focus resources.
