Workshop: Intro to Writing & Illustrating a Children's Book
Thursday, January 13, 2022
Workshop for Adults with Sheila Jarkins
This class has 3 workshops.
Workshop Day One: Let's start with the main character!
The character you create should drive the story and connect your reader in an emotional and empathetic way. Develop your character in pencil and experiment with techniques, media and style. then create the antagonist. Create names for your characters.
Workshop Day Two: Let's keep it simple!
Writing a story can be a daunting endeavor. One's mind fills with so many ideas. We will start with one sentence that states the main character's problem, desire, dream...(Ex. penguin wants to learn to ski) . Then create the beginning , the middle, and the end in a natural way, without editing. Insert the antagonist's action or words that challenge the main character's resolution to overcome any difficulty.
Workshop Day Three: Put it together!
Create a 32 page storyboard with text ( under 1,000 words) and simple sketches of your characters in various actions within a setting. Edit. Then create a dummy book.
Materials to bring: Sketchbook ( tablet if desired) and notepad.
