In response to concerns of excessive vehicle speeds, the City of Gainesville has established the Traffic-Calming Device and Speed Hump Program for citizens of Gainesville who wish to pursue the installation of traffic-calming devices and speed humps on city streets.
The objective is to provide a process pursuant to which traffic-calming devices are installed on City-maintained neighborhood/residential streets, and where engineering studies indicate the device would meet the desired results of reducing neighborhood speeds and is favored by a majority of the property owners in the area.
Any individual property owner can initiate a request for traffic-calming devices and speed hump installation by completing the Traffic-Calming Device and Speed Hump Request Application or by calling the Gainesville Public Works Traffic Engineering Division at 770-535-6882. Completed applications should be mailed to:
Gainesville Public Works Department
Attn: Rhonda Brady
P.O. Box 2496, Suite 202
Gainesville, GA 30503
Please note the application must be filed by a property owner having the authority to act on behalf of the subdivision or study area. In the case of a mandatory Home Owner's Association (HOA), the application must be filed by a member of the board authorized to act on behalf of the HOA. Where any HOA is not considered mandatory, the application must be made by a property owner authorized to act on behalf of the residents.
