Rooted in history

The classic look of the blue-and-white Gainesville Trolleys is a nod to a period (late 1800s-early 1900s) when trolleys were all the rage across the United States, especially in the City of Gainesville.

The Gainesville Street Railway Company was formed in 1875 and a streetcar line was constructed with horse- and mule-drawn trolley cars. The trolley cars were eventually replaced with electric cars in 1903.

The original railway route went from the Railroad Depot up Main Street and around the historic downtown square, up Green Street to the Gower Springs Resort Hotel and Riverside Drive, to the springs at the Chattahoochee River, out Washington and Spring streets to the New Holland Springs hotel.
