The Gainesville City School System (GCSS) is a Georgia Charter School System serving approximately 8,000 students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 in eight specialty charter programs open to parental student choice. In 1892, the City of Gainesville created the GCSS Board of Education and opened Gainesville High School.

Recognized as an AP STEM, AP STEM Achievement and AP Access and Support School. Other offerings include:

  • College preparatory, advanced placement, dual enrollment and honors courses
  • Career apprenticeship and career technical and agricultural education programs
  • AP Capstone diploma program
  • Various academic, athletic and extracurricular activities
  • The Hub, an online student services center that assist families with academic, mental and basic needs

Lakeview Academy is a private, coeducational day school for students in grades K3 through 12, that was founded in 1970.

Accreditation and Memberships

Lakeview Academy is accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS). Lakeview is also a member of the Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools (AAAIS), Georgia Independent School Association (GISA), the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Lakeview's Pre-K program is fully licensed by the State of Georgia, Bright From the Start.

Athletics

Lakeview Academy competes in the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) in the single “A” division. Beginning in the fall of 2022, they will transition to Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA).

Private, all-boys military school for young men in grades 6-12. Home to a Corps of Cadets that averages over 500 cadets from 30 nations and 30 states. Riverside Military Academy was founded in 1907.
