Facilities opening their doors to the public from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday include the Gainesville Administration Building and Gainesville Community and Economic Development building (all located off Henry Ward Way), plus the Gainesville Public Safety Complex (located off Queen City Parkway) and Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center (Prior Street).

The Gainesville Water Resources Administration Building (whose drive-thru is open) remains closed.

Special Meetings & City Resolutions to Address the Novel COVID-19 Pandemic

Gainesville City Council Meeting & COVID-19 Update - May 5, 2020

The Gainesville City Council convened Tuesday, May 5, 2020 for its regularly scheduled meeting.

Action included adoption of a resolution extending the local state of emergency until 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2020. The resolution also extends the following provisions related to COVID-19:

  • Postponement of all public hearings and meetings of any board, committee or commission, including the planning and appeals board, which means all zonings, special uses, variances and annexations are delayed;
  • Suspension of the termination of water service for nonpayment;
  • Waiving of credit card convenience fees for online payments for goods and services;
  • Waiving of late fees for city-provided goods and services;
  • Ability for restaurants to sell bottled beer and/or bottled wine with carry-out meals;
  • Closing of all city administrative offices and buildings to the public.

Gainesville City Council - Special Called Meeting - COVID-19 Update - April 3, 2020

The Gainesville City Council convened Friday, April 3, 2020 in a special called meeting in response to Gov. Brian Kemp issuing a statewide shelter-in-place order for residents and visitors of Georgia.

Action included adoption of a resolution rescinding past resolutions related to COVID-19.

Gainesville City Council - Special Called Meeting - COVID-19 Update - April 1, 2020

The Gainesville City Council convened Wednesday, April 1, 2020 in a special called meeting to pursue further provisions related to the declaration of emergency due to COVID-19.

Action included adoption of a resolution declaring a shelter-in-place order, effective at midnight Thursday, April 2, 2020. The resolution allows for essential activities, essential travel and for essential businesses to operate.

Gainesville City Council - Special Called Meeting - COVID-19 Update - March 27, 2020

The Gainesville City Council convened Friday, March 27, 2020 in a special called meeting to pursue further provisions related to the declaration of emergency due to COVID-19.

Action included adoption of a joint resolution of the Gainesville City Council, Northeast Georgia Health System Board of Trustees, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Board of Trustees, medical staffs of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Hospital Authority of Hall County and City of Gainesville and Hall County Commission. The joint resolution collectively asks all people across our region to stay home for at least 14 days - leaving only for tasks required by their job and necessary needs such as food, medications and medical emergencies - to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The Gainesville City Council convened Monday, March 23, 2020 in a special called meeting to further address the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

Action included adoption of a resolution declaring emergency due to COVID-19 and for provisions necessary to protect lives.
