Elections

The City of Gainesville's regularly scheduled elections are held in odd-number years. Special elections are held as needed. All municipal elections are non-partisan. They are conducted in accordance with the Georgia Constitution, Georgia Election Code, City Charter and the City Code of Ordinances. Election services are provided by the Hall County Board of Elections and Registrars Offices via an intergovernmental agreement.

Gainesville governing body

The governing body for the City of Gainesville consists of the mayor and five councilmembers. They are elected citywide with a majority vote to serve four-year terms. Gainesville City School System

The Gainesville City School System has five districts. Board of Education members are elected by district with plurality vote to serve four-year terms. The powers and duties are outlined in the City Charter. Visit the Gainesville City Schools Board of Education website for more information.
