C. Danny Dunagan Jr. is a Gainesville native along with his wife of 46 years. They have two children and three grandchildren.
Dunagan has been a local business owner (Three D Cleaners) for 42 years. He has been a member of the Gainesville Rotary Club since 1986.
Dunagan's commitment to local government began on the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board where he served for nine years. He served as chairperson for five of those years before running for the Gainesville City Council.
Dunagan was elected to complete an unexpired term as the Ward 1 council member in 2006. He was re-elected to serve a four-year term ending Dec. 31, 2013.
The next election caused Dunagan to become the first elected Mayor of Gainesville. He served in this capacity for two consecutive terms (from 2014-21). As Mayor, Dunagan presided over numerous meetings; was the spokesperson for and made presentations on behalf of the City of Gainesville; signed official documents; and served on various boards/committees both locally and across the state.
Dunagan was re-elected to serve as the Ward 1 council member in 2021. He continues to serve the community with pride and passion.
