Recycling

The City of Gainesville collects single-stream recycling and provides city customers with a recycling container. Recycling bins must be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on your designated pickup day.

What can I recycle?

  • Cans: Aluminum and tin cans. Rinse out, flatten (optional).
  • Scrap metal: Less than 5 pounds and less than 18 inches in length.
  • Paper:
    • Catalogs
    • Cereal boxes
    • Clean and dry newspapers
    • Hardback or paperback books
    • Magazines
    • Mail
    • Paperboard boxes
    • Paper bags
    • Paper frozen food boxes
    • Phonebooks
    • Writing paper
  • Plastic - Bottles No. 1 and No. 2, such as those used to hold detergent, milk, soda or shampoo. Rinse out and remove lids.
  • Cardboard - Flattened boxes (must fit in recycling bin).
