The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) was created when the Gainesville City Council adopted a historic preservation ordinance in October 2001 and implemented it in June 2002. The HPC consists of five voting members who are residents of the City appointed by the City Council for staggered three-year terms. All terms expire on June 30 of their respective year. Additional information about the HPC, including its duties and responsibilities, is outlined in Chapter 9-21-2 of the Unified Land Development Code. The HPC makes recommendations to the City Council on requests for local designation. The HPC has final action on all requests for Certificates of Appropriateness.
