Tickets Issued for Parking Violations

The Gainesville Police Department issued more than 50 parking tickets
today in violation of the two hour parking time limit on the downtown
square.  Police Chief Brian Kelly said the City has made numerous
attempts to curb parking violations.  “We receive parking complaints
weekly and have asked merchants in person, by letter, and by email to
leave the 2 hour parking for customers. We have also asked citizens
who work downtown to use the Hall County parking deck or the
GeorgiaMountains Centerdeck. We need the downtown parking
spaces for customers who want to shop in our stores and eat in our
restaurants,” Kelly said.
In September, Main Street Gainesville and the Georgia Mountains
Center developed a free parking pass for downtown business
owners, managers and employees to use when there are paid parking
events at the Mountains Center.  The City also installed new
downtown signage directing drivers to free parking in both decks.
