Public Safety Hosts 9-11 CeremonyPublic Safety officers from the City of Gainesville and Hall CountyGovernment will gather for a 9-11 Memorial Service on Saturday, September 10. The service will begin at 9:30 am at the Public Safety Complex at Fire Station #1 located at 725 Pine Street. The Honor Guards for Gainesville Fire, Gainesville Police, and Hall County Sheriff’s Department will perform as part of the service. Gainesville Fire Chief, Jon Canada, said this year’s service marks the 10th anniversary of a very dark day in America. “Although it’s been ten years since this tragedy occurred, we are constantly reminded of those who lost their lives and the families whose suffering continues. We are especially humbled this year to be able to unveil a piece of steel we received from the New York Port Authority from the World Trade Center. The steel will be on display in the lobby of Fire Station #1 as an historic symbol that we will never forget those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. We hope the community will come out and join us as we pay our respects, not only to the 415 Public Safety workers who lost their lives that day, but the thousands of others as well,” Chief Canada said.
