Local Residents Recognized by Georgia Recreation and Park Association
 
Athens, GA -  Gainesville Parks and Recreation was named Parks and Recreation Agency of the Year by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association at its annual conference in Athens on Thursday.  The award was the 8th time in the last ten years and the 16th time that the Agency has received the prestigious honor. The Agency was cited for its strategic planning and strong operations, programming and services, community partnerships and continued development of valued greenspace.

Other local citizens and organizations were also recognized for their contributions and commitment to the quality of life in our community.  Local businessman and volunteer coach Billy Glosson was named Volunteer of the Year for the positive impact he has had on the many youth fortunate to call him coach.  The Red Bud Project was also honored as Volunteer of the Year for its success in bringing together dozens of committed organizations and volunteers to create trails and protect native plant habitats in the 29 acre Linwood Nature Preserve.

Andi Harmon, Division Manager for the Frances Meadows Aquatic Center in Gainesville, was recognized as the Distinguished Aquatics Professional for the State of Georgia.  Gainesville Parks and Recreation’s Annual Trick or Treat on the Trail was awarded Most Innovative Special Event.
