National Recognition for Police

The Gainesville Police Department is proud to announce that it has been recognized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police at the 117th International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Orlando, Florida.

The department was recognized for its efforts in traffic and highway safety on October 26, 2010 in Orlando, Florida at the annual conference. The department was awarded third place nationally in our category. The category consisted of thirty six other agencies similar to our size. Each year agencies from across the country apply for the Law Enforcement Challenge. The agencies are judged on the following: polices, officer training, enforcement, public education, and effectiveness to reduce injury or fatality crashes as a result of impairment and or speeding.

The department was also awarded a second place finish in their category by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety at their annual Law Enforcement Challenge Awards ceremony in Macon, Georgia. Along with the award the department was awarded funds to enhance the agencies traffic enforcement, educational and community programs.
