The City of Gainesville posts job vacancies as hiring needs arise. Applications and resumes are accepted only for positions that are currently open. Positions are normally posted for ten calendar days unless otherwise stated. “Open until Filled” positions are ongoing recruitments and may be closed and filled at any time.

Upon receiving the application and resume, information is entered into our employment database system. Applications and resumes are scanned and placed in a designated folder for the hiring authority to review.  Hiring authorities review the application and resume for minimum qualifications and skill sets that are pertinent to the job and department.  Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.

Background checks, motor vehicle record checks, work history and a pre-employment physical and/or drug screen are required as part of the hiring process. Some positions, including those in Public Safety, may require additional assessments such as psychological evaluation, polygraph, and/or credit check, which are coordinated through the hiring department and Human Resources after successful results of the interview process.

All applications (except police and fire) are active for ninety days from submission.
