Governor Appoints Fire Chief to State Board
Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada was sworn in Tuesday, February 1 as a member of the Georgia Department of Public Safety Board. Chief Canada was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal. The Georgia Department of Public Safety oversees the Georgia State Patrol, Capitol Police and Motor Carrier Compliance Division.
Canada has served as Gainesville's Fire Chief since February 2008. He is certified by the National Board of Fire Service Professional Qualifications and is a member of the Georgia State Firefighters Association and serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs. Canada attended Dekalb College and Lanier Technical College. He is a Georgia licensed EMT-I and holds a First Class Firefighter Certification from the Georgia Fire Academy at Georgia’s Public Safety Training Center. He and his wife, Jenny, have two children.
