In partnership with the city of Gainesville and Gainesville Parks
& Recreation Agency, Friends of Gainesville Parks & Greenways,
Inc. is committed to improving the quality of life by linking our
community through parks, greenways, and open spaces.
Imagine
a grid of sidewalks and streets, dotted with homes
and businesses, connected by pockets of greenspace, recreational
trails, and tree-lined corridors. This is connectivity; our vision
for Gainesville.
Friends of the Parks is in need of funding. In order to sustain
operations of this vital organization, Friends is launching an endowment
campaign. We are excited about the prospect of reaching our $500,000
goal, and we need your help to make that reality!
Why is Friends of the Parks a wise investment?
| Our Record.
Since 1996, Friends of the Parks has
|
| Developed a Master Plan outlining the restoration
of the Rock Creek Greenway. |
| Created Rock Creek Park. |
| Acquired land to complete the link from
downtown to Lake Lanier |
| Completed Ivey Terrace Phase I, which includes
reforestation, trail construction, a new picnic pavilion
and parking area, streambank restoration, and landscape
beautification. |
| Recruited over 400 donors and volunteers. |
| Hosted the annual Butterfly Release. |
| Implemented the Park Keepers beautification
program. |
| |
|
| Our
Strategic Goals. |
| Complete the Rock Creek Greenway Restoration |
| Develop city-wide greenprint. |
| Acquire land for parks and greenways to
develop greenway network. |
| Maintain and beautify parks and greenways. |
| Increase connectivity and greenspace awareness
through educational programs. |
| |
|
| Our
Community. Vibrant
flowers, enthusiastic volunteers, and fellowship among
neighbors
Indeed, the parks are a gathering place
for folks to experience a better quality of life. |
| |
|
| Our
Environment. Friends
planted 73 new trees, restored eroded streambanks, and
implemented stormwater mitigation measures. |
| |
|
| Our
Economy. Small
business owners rank proximity to greenspace as the #1
factor in choosing a business location. Bridging homes
to businesses, greenways are an economic link that drives
business. |
| |
|
| Our
Physical Health & Wellness.
By constructing a city-wide trail system, the parks provide
a beautiful, safe, and free place to exercise. |
| |
|
| Our
Vision. Connectivity,
or linking our community through parks and greenways,
is our vision for Gainesville. By establishing a network
of parks and greenways, people can walk, jog, or bike
to nearby destinations. |
