Energy Retrofit Rebate Program a Huge SuccessThe energy retrofit rebate program offered to Gainesville residents andnon residential owners in September has resulted in tremendous energy savings and an economic impact of almost $90,000 in the community. Jessica Tullar, Special Projects Manager for the City of Gainesville, said 15 projects/buildings were helped through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant administered through the GeorgiaEnvironmental Finance Authority. “Most of the projects involved replacing 20+ year old air conditioning and heating systems with new, high efficiency units. Other projects included having insulation blown in attics, walls, and floors, as well as replacing water heaters with new efficient, tankless water heaters. Almost half of the projects are being completed on historic structures. The best news is the improvements resulted in an energy savings equivalent to powering five homes for one year,” Tullar said. Program design allowed for rebates ranging from $1000 to $3000, but were not to exceed 50% of the total project costs or $3000. Approved project rebates ranged from $374 to $3000, but did not exceed 45% of the total cost for the energy efficiency upgrades due to high demand for limited funds.
