Message from the Manager
The basic responsibility of our department is to insure that the new home you buy or the new mall you visit is built to comply with all Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Fire Codes so you will be as safe as you can be. It is my personal goal to make sure every customer is treated the way I would like to be treated, cordially, and with respect. If at any time you feel this has not happened, I want to know about it.

The City of Gainesville has operated an Inspection Services Department since 1957. Today, the Inspection Services Office operates under a unified code system that is applicable regardless of which jurisdiction construction occurs. The primary mission of Inspection Services is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the people by ensuring a safe building environment.
We enforce the International Building Codes as prescribed by the International Code Council, mandated by and amended by the State of Georgia.
All work to any structure be it new construction, addition, or alteration to an existing structure shall be approved and permitted by the Inspection Services Department before construction begins.
Inspection Services also enforces erosion and sedimentation controls in the City. Any grading, clearing, grubbing or installation of driveways on any property shall be required to obtain a land disturbance permit. All work projects within the local historic districts shall require a permit.
