Business Police Academy Registration Underway

Registration is underway for the 8th annual Business Police Academy
sponsored by the Gainesville Police Department. The first class will be
held on Tuesday, September 13 from 6:30pm-9:00pm.  The targeted
audience for the Business Police Academy is the business community
including business owners, managers and employees.  Participants
must be at least 21 years old and will be subject to a background
check.

The Academy is planned and organized by Crime Prevention Officers
Joe Britte and Kevin Holbrook.  Britte said the eleven week course will
include information especially beneficial to business owners.  “The
lessons will include education on shoplifting prevention, identity theft,
credit card fraud, counterfeit money, and criminal investigations.
Participants will also learn about robbery prevention, court room
procedures and testimony,” Britte said.

“This Academy should be the best so far since we are housed in our
new facility. Students will learn more than they ever expected,”
Holbrook said.

The registration deadline is August 26. Applications are available on
the City website at www.gainesville.org, at the Gainesville Justice
Center at 701 Queen City Parkway SW, or by calling Crime Prevention
Officers Joe Britte or Kevin Holbrook at 770-287-0893.
