"A City Laid Waste" 1936 Tornado Walking Tour

Gainesville, Georgia is the location of the fifth deadliest tornado in all of American History. On Monday, April 6, 1936 at 8:27am two tornados coming from opposite directions combined, surprised, and struck downtown Gainesville. 

Take a tour of the downtown area to learn more about the destruction of the city from this storm and about the re-building process. You can even visit Roosevelt Square and stand in the spot where President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared that Gainesville was a disaster area.
